The information on msgtruth.org is the culmination of the important independent research regarding the amino-acid based food additives, Monosodium Glutamate and Aspartame.   

MSGTruth.org is a not-for-profit site created by former food process engineer and food scientist, Carol Hoernlein, to help the public grapple with the latest scientific information regarding monosodium glutamate and aspartame, and make sense of it all.

NEWS - Kroschel Films latest full length feature documentary The Beautiful Truth, written and directed by master cinematographer, Steve Kroschel  is coming soon in September to 1,100 theaters nationwide in the US.  It is to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival (May 14-25) in 2008.  This truly groundbreaking film features interviews with the top researchers and physicians in the fields of food additives, mercury and flouride toxicity, and also the Gerson Therapy, developed in 1928, which centers on using proper nutrition to heal.  Carol Hoernlein, the founder of MSGTruth.org, appears in the film as well.

Nov - 2007 - US Vaccine Court rules vaccine found to CAUSE Autism Spectrum Disorder.In this case, vaccination for 9 diseases at once was found to have caused ASD in a child who had been developing normally up to 18 months.   Many parents can now take heart - there is finally a precedent-setting case proving that vaccines can cause ASD when given to a child.   Free glutamic acid was in those vaccines and if it may have exacerbated the immune reaction that caused ASD in this child.

In addition, glutamate interferes with the body's ability to chelate and remove mercury from the body.  This problem may be made worse in children with the autism genes regardless of where that mercury comes from.

The other MSG symptoms missing from the above list are obesity, Type II diabetes, and high blood pressure. THOSE may be CAUSED by MSG.

In the studies it was HEALTHY mice that were made obese by causing leptin resistance and AMPK activation.  Studies on animals showed that glutamate constricts blood vessels because it acts as a calcium channel OPENER, and it also increased appetite in healthy animals by 40% by acting on the hypothalamus.

Consequently, if you think you are immune from the effects of MSG because you don't have autism or one of the symptoms listed above, note that free glutamic acid acts on the pancreas to secrete insulin and acts to stimulate hunger by targeting the amygdala and hypothalamus and creates valium-like GABA in otherwise HEALTHY folks.
